In practical terms, this means citizens from the following countries and regions are eligible to apply with a valid job offer from a Hungarian employer:

Asian Nationals: India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Philippines, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, and most Middle Eastern countries.
African Nationals: Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, and citizens of most other African nations.
Other Nationalities: Citizens from Russia, Ukraine*, Belarus, and other CIS countries.

Types of Hungary Work Permits & Residence Permits

Selecting the appropriate permit is essential for a successful application. Hungary issues work authorization and residence permits together for non-EU nationals.

  • Residence Permit for the Purpose of Employment (Standard Work Permit)

    For non-EU nationals with a confirmed job offer from a Hungarian employer. Employer must demonstrate that the position cannot be filled by an EU or Hungarian citizen. Valid up to 2 years, extendable to 3 years.

  • EU Blue Card

    For highly skilled professionals with higher education qualifications. Requires a binding job offer with a salary above the national minimum threshold. Offers mobility across EU member states and a pathway to long-term residence.

  • Seasonal Work Permit

    For temporary employment in agriculture, tourism, hospitality, or other seasonal industries. Typically valid up to 6 months within a 12-month period.

  • Intra-Company Transfer (ICT) Permit

    For employees transferred within multinational companies from a foreign branch to Hungary.

  • Freelancer & Self-Employment Permit

  • Hungarian Card (Magyar Kártya)

  • Guest Worker Permit

    This category is highly restrictive and intended for unskilled or low-skilled work. It is subject to strict quotas and limited to specific nationalities and employers. Holders are not eligible for family reunification or permanent residency.

Hungary Work Permit & Visa Application Process
